The court heard McNamara used shivs created from razors, paddle pop sticks and masking tape to attack McCurley in the yard of the prison, The Daily Telegraph reported.
The court heard McCurley was on remand for child sex offences and that McNamara had heard him bragging about them before he approached him from behind.
