The origin of Larimar traces back to a comparatively latest discovery. Though locals in the Dominican Republic had discovered blue stones washing up on the beaches for generations, it wasn't till 1974 that the stone was formally recognized and named. Miguel Méndez, a Dominican, and Norman Rilling, a Peace Corps volunteer, discovered the source in the Bahoruco mountain range.
